Professional Biography:

Javier Trujillo was named Director of Public Affairs in March 2016.  He is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of the Public Affairs Department, including the city-wide communication function, marketing, intergovernmental relations.  He facilitates and maintains ongoing interaction between the City of Henderson and elected local, state, and federal officials and their respective staff members.  He assists in the identification and the implementation of beneficial community partnerships, public policies and organizational efforts and also lobbies for the city at the state legislature, and is responsible for the federal, state and local legislative activities.

Javier came to the city in 2008 and has served as both Intergovernmental Relations Director and Intergovernmental Relations Manager.  Prior, he served as New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson’s state political director during the 2007 presidential primary and worked with the Clark County School District as a project facilitator.

He currently serves as a board member for many nonprofit organizations, including: the Silver State Schools Credit Union Board of Directors; the UNLV School of Medicine Community Advisory Board; the Las Vegas Healthy Communities Coalition Leadership Council, United Way of Southern Nevada; CPLC Southwest; and the Education Advisory Committee, Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance.  He was appointed to the Nevada Arts Council by Governor Brian Sandoval in 2012.    

He also served three terms as Chairman of the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and as a member of the Clark County School District Superintendent’s Educational Opportunities Advisory Board and the College of Southern Nevada’s Strategic Planning Committee and President’s Advisory Board. 

Javier has been the recipient of various recognitions, including being named 2012 Hispanic of the Year by the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce; 2009 Staff Person of the Year by the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities; and 2004 Outstanding Hispanic Educator by the City of Las Vegas.
