About the APPLE Partnership
Alarmed about startling statistics about childhood literacy, the Mayor and Council of the City of Henderson pledged community support to help educators and families help children learn to read. Soon thereafter, the City and Clark County School District assembled a group of parents, teachers, principals and city representatives to meet and create what has become known as the APPLE (All People Promoting Literacy Efforts) Partnership.
The partnership operates on the understanding that all children are capable of learning and that reading is the basis of all learning. It also operates under the understanding that parents and families are the biggest influences on literacy and development and that parents are the most important teachers in a child's life.
In an ongoing effort, the partnership actively works to bring community resources to schools, teachers and parents in a proactive way to help families help children learn how to read. In a nutshell, it's about reading and giving kids a chance to succeed in life.
APPLE Partnership Goals
To communicate to the public the mission of the APPLE Partnership.
To identify and promote community resources for families to assist their children to become successful readers.
To establish partnerships within the community to provide resources and incentives to promote literacy efforts.

2025-2026 School Year Winners
Thousands of hours were spent reading across Henderson elementary schools during this year’s Apple CORE Reading Competition, and the results were incredible! Congratulations to Smalley Elementary School for taking first place with an average of almost 53 hours read per student, followed by Stevens Elementary with 50 hours and Cox Elementary with 40 hours.
A big shoutout goes to the teachers, principals, support staff and families who encouraged these students to reach their goals and make reading a priority!
Read with Me NV
Read With Me is helping more children in Clark County become confident readers because early literacy is one of the strongest predictors of lifelong success. Children who read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to graduate from high school. Building strong readers takes a community effort, with families, educators, volunteers and community partners all playing an important role.
