Charter Schools

Charter schools are tuition-free public schools that are open to all students. While they operate independently from traditional school districts, they are held to high standards of accountability and academic performance. Charter schools are publicly funded and provide families with an alternative public education option that often features unique instructional approaches, specialized programs, or innovative learning models. Like all public schools, charter schools are committed to helping students succeed and are open to any student regardless of zip code or background.

Check Enrollment Periods
  • Most schools open enrollment in early spring (January–March), but dates vary.
  • If you apply after the open enrollment window, you may be added to a waitlist.

Submit an Application
  • Apply directly on the school’s website or through their enrollment platform (many use Lotterease, SchoolMint, or a custom portal).
  • You may need to create an account, fill out basic student information, and select your preferred grade level.

Lottery System (If Applicable)

Process: After the open enrollment period, many schools hold a computerized lottery to randomly select students for admission. Families are notified of acceptance or waitlist status via email or phone, and additional lotteries may be held only after the initial waitlist is exhausted.

Application Guidelines

Parents must apply online during the open enrollment period, submitting one application per family per campus. Each campus conducts its own lottery. Sibling priority is given, but submitting multiple applications per family will void all submissions.

Important Reminders

Applying does not guarantee admission. Families must reapply each year if not selected. It is the parent’s responsibility to keep contact information current and monitor email (including spam folders) for lottery notifications.

Complete Registration Documents

Once accepted, you will typically need to submit:

  • Proof of residency (e.g., utility bill)
  • Birth certificate
  • Immunization records
  • Parent/guardian ID
  • Prior school records (if applicable)

Attend Orientation or Meet & Greets (Optional but Encouraged):

Some schools may host a family orientation, especially for new enrollees.
