Requesting Formal Recognition from the City of Henderson

The City of Henderson offers a variety of formal recognition opportunities to honor causes and individuals with significance to our community, including these official documents issued by the Mayor of the City of Henderson:

Proclamations commemorate a specific time period (day, week, or month) to raise awareness about issues, recognize industries, or celebrate milestones.

Commendations recognize outstanding achievements of an individual, organization, or event.

Certificates recognize milestone anniversaries or significant achievements of residents, organizations, and events of significance to the City of Henderson.

These honorary documents do not carry the force of law nor constitute an endorsement by the City of Henderson.

General Criteria

  • Requests are only accepted from residents, groups and organizations in the City of Henderson.
    • If a national organization wishes to request a recognition, please identify a local affiliate or sponsor to submit a request for consideration.
    • If your recognition request is of statewide or county significance, please direct the request to state or county officials.  
  • A recognition request may not highlight, reference, or take sides in political, ideological, or religious controversies, nor should they address personal or individual convictions.
  • Annual or recurring requests must be submitted every year.
  • Draft content should be included with your request and is subject to revision including grammatical errors, quality of content, proper and legible formatting, and relationship to the City of Henderson mission, vision, values, and priorities.
  • Physical and/or electronic copies of the document will be provided, upon request.
  • Recognitions with citywide impact may additionally be considered for acknowledgement in a presentation during a City Council meeting.
    • A maximum of three presentation items are planned at each City Council meeting.

Recognition requests that are identical or similar to previous requests in the same year will be denied and we may supply you with the previously issued document.

Multiple requests by the same resident or organization may not be honored within the same calendar year.

Making Your Request

Your request must be submitted via the online form found on the Contact Henderson website. Please be sure to include contact information and complete all required fields before submitting your request for consideration. Samples/news releases/flyers may be uploaded as attachments. We will no longer accept requests by mail, fax, phone, email, or hand delivery.

The City will determine the appropriate form of recognition for your request.

Your request must include draft language and background information on the person, organization, or event for which you are requesting the recognition. Proclamations and Commendations require four to six suggested “Whereas” statements.

Your request must be submitted at least 14 days in advance of your requested date. If less than two weeks' notice is given, the Department of Government Relations reserves the right to decline the recognition request.
