No, the AMI system itself will not increase water rates. This scheduled system upgrade has already been accounted for in our long-range financial plan. As mechanical meters age, they can gradually lose precision, so installing new meters simply restores accuracy. With AMI, you’ll have detailed and timely insight into your daily water use so you can track and manage your bill more effectively.

Installation impacts vary by property: 

• Approximately 30% of customers will receive a new water meter, which may require a brief interruption of water service lasting about 15–20 minutes. 
• The remaining 70% of customers will have AMI technology attached to the existing meter, which does not require a water service interruption.

No. Henderson’s water meters are installed outdoors, so no one needs to be home during the upgrade. We just need the same access we use for regular meter readings.

Uniformed City of Henderson Department of Utility Services employees will perform all AMI installations. Our staff will carry official City identification and will be happy to present it upon request. 

No, AMI technology only measures water usage and does not affect water pressure or quality.

The AMI system adheres to stringent radio frequency (RF) safety standards set by regulatory authorities. RF levels of AMI meters are much lower than common devices like cell phones and have been proven to pose no health risks. 

The total dose of radio power received over a minute from a cell phone held to the ear is over 1.1 million times greater than that received 1 meter away from a water meter using RF technology.
