Downtown Henderson is at a pivotal moment. As the historic heart of our city, it reflects both our deep roots and our growing potential. In recent years, Downtown has seen renewed activity - new businesses, new housing, and new public spaces - but challenges such as aging infrastructure, fragmented parcels, and underutilized properties continue to impact the area’s vitality. To keep Downtown thriving, we must work together to strengthen its role as a vibrant, welcoming, and resilient center for our community.

 

The Downtown Investment Strategy is our roadmap for achieving that vision. Over the past year, the Redevelopment Agency has undertaken a comprehensive update to this plan, grounded in extensive engagement with residents, businesses, property owners, and developers. As we near the final stage of this process, the Strategy reflects what we’ve heard matters most to those who live, work, and invest in Downtown. It outlines clear, actionable steps to support small businesses, expand diverse housing options, revitalize vacant and blighted parcels, enhance walkability, and create a safer, more connected experience across all Downtown districts.

As we prepare for the future, including the 2040 sunset of the Redevelopment Area, our focus remains the same: ensuring that Downtown is positioned to thrive today and for generations to come. The goal of this update is not to reinvent who we are - it builds on Henderson’s long legacy of fostering safe neighborhoods, supporting economic opportunity, and cultivating a high quality of life.
