Education Initiatives 

Quality Education is one of the strategic priorities of the City of Henderson. The Redevelopment Agency supports the importance of access to high quality preschool programming to ensure that children are well prepared to enter the K-12 system especially for families in the Eastside and Downtown Redevelopment areas. As a result of resetting the base year and extending the life of the Downtown and Eastside Redevelopment areas, the agency sets aside 18% of each areas tax increment revenue to be distributed towards eligible public education initiatives as approved by the Joint Planning Group which consists of the City of Henderson and the Clark County School District. Access to quality early childhood education programs is a challenge for many families and a portion of the set aside funds have been allocated to provide scholarships for eligible students from a Redevelopment area to attend the preschool program with the City of Henderson at the Valley View Recreation Center. This scholarship support has been available to families for the past 4 years and continues to be a critical component in the support network for families of young children. 

This Program provides scholarship assistance from the City of Henderson Redevelopment Agency Public Education Set Aside Fund to fund 50% of the preschool enrollment costs offered at the Valley View Recreation Center on a per student, per semester increment. Funding will be provided for registration on a semester schedule and scholarship recipients must maintain a 90% attendance rate each semester to be eligible for scholarship funding in subsequent semesters. All requests for scholarship assistance must be in writing and submitted to the Redevelopment Agency on the application form included in this packet. All requests for assistance will be reviewed and awarded by the Redevelopment Agency, subject to funding availability. Scholarship awards will be referred to, applied and processed by the City of Henderson Parks & Recreation Department—Youth Enrichment division.
