HPD Corrections badgeThe philosophy governing the Henderson Detention Center is that one's loss of freedom is, in itself, sufficient punishment. All inmates will be treated with dignity and respect.

This division provides detention services for City misdemeanants, United States Marshal Service inmates, Immigration and Customs Enforcement inmates, U.S. Park Service, Clark County inmates, and Boulder City Police Department misdemeanor arrestees.

The Division is organized under the Office of the Chief of Police and The Deputy Chief of Support, overseen by a Corrections Captain. The Corrections Division currently maintains a staff of approximately 114 employees, including Corrections Officers, Sergeants, Lieutenants, Detention Center Technicians, Central Control Room Operators, Classification Technicians, Cooks, and Police Administrative Specialists. This division manages an average daily inmate population of approximately 503 inmates. Unless remanded to adult status by the court having jurisdiction over the case, juveniles are not housed in this facility.

Henderson Detention CenterMedical and mental health care is provided by a contracted medical service provider which includes 24 hours nursing care, weekly physician and psychiatric visits as well as basic dental care.

Zero Tolerance

The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) is a federal law that prohibits sexual misconduct in correctional settings such as prisons, jails, lockups, juvenile facilities, and Immigration Services ⁄ ICE detention facilities. Sexual misconduct under this law includes:

  • Detainee-on-Detainee sexual assault and abuse
  • Staff-on-Detainee sexual misconduct (sexual inappropriate relationships with Detainees)
  • Detainee-on-Detainee and staff-on-Detainee sexual harassment

The Henderson Detention Center (HDC) takes every report of sexual misconduct seriously and will thoroughly, promptly, and objectively investigate all allegations.

The HDC is committed to emphasizing a zero-tolerance for sexual abuse or assault of detainees/inmates, either by staff or other detainees/inmates. It shall be the policy of the HDC to provide a safe and secure environment for all detainees, employees, contractors, and volunteers, free from the threat of sexual abuse or assault by maintaining a Sexual Abuse and Assault Prevention and Intervention Program (SAAPI) that ensures effective procedures for preventing, reporting, responding to, investigating, and tracking incidents or allegations of sexual abuse or assault.

The HDC shall conduct investigations in a manner that avoids unnecessary embarrassment or indignity to the detainee/inmate. It shall also be the policy of the HDC to pursue administrative, disciplinary, and/or criminal sanctions against any detainee/inmate, staff member, contractor, or volunteer found to have committed sexual abuse or assault against a detainee/inmate. It shall be the responsibility of the medical staff to provide immediate first aid to the victim and to refer the detainee/inmate to the appropriate medical facility. HDC policies regarding sexual misconduct apply to all inmates/detainees, Detention Center Employees, contractors, and volunteers.

La Ley de Eliminación de Violaciones en Prisión (PREA, por sus siglas en inglés) es una ley federal que prohíbe la conducta sexual inapropiada en entornos correccionales como prisiones, cárceles, calabozos, instalaciones juveniles y centros de detención de Servicios de Inmigración ⁄ ICE. La conducta sexual inapropiada bajo esta ley incluye:

  • Agresión y abuso sexual de detenido a detenido                                                     
  • Conducta sexual inapropiada del personal con el detenido (relaciones sexuales inapropiadas con los    detenidos)                                                              
  • Acoso sexual de detenido a detenido y del personal al detenido

El Centro de Detención de Henderson (HDC) toma en serio cada informe de conducta sexual inapropiada e investigará a fondo, con prontitud y objetividad todas las acusaciones.

La HDC se ha comprometido a hacer hincapié en la tolerancia cero con respecto al abuso o la agresión sexual de los detenidos/reclusos, ya sea por parte del personal o de otros detenidos/reclusos. Será política de la HDC proporcionar un entorno seguro para todos los detenidos, empleados, contratistas y voluntarios, libre de la amenaza de abuso o agresión sexual mediante el mantenimiento de un Programa de Prevención e Intervención de Abuso y Agresión Sexual (SAAPI) que garantice procedimientos efectivos para prevenir, informar, responder, investigar y rastrear incidentes o acusaciones de abuso o agresión sexual.

La Comisión de Derechos Humanos llevará a cabo las investigaciones de manera que se evite una vergüenza o indignidad innecesarias para el detenido/recluso. También será política de la HDC perseguir sanciones administrativas, disciplinarias y/o penales contra cualquier detenido/recluso, miembro del personal, contratista o voluntario que haya cometido abuso o agresión sexual contra un detenido/recluso. Corresponderá al personal médico prestar los primeros auxilios inmediatos a la víctima y derivarlo al centro médico apropiado. Las políticas de la HDC con respecto a la conducta sexual inapropiada se aplican a todos los reclusos/detenidos. También se aplican a empleados, contratistas y voluntarios.

The main lobby is open 7 days per week for general business: 8:00am - 4:00pm, closed 12:00pm - 1:00pm for lunch.

Visitation is scheduled by appointment and is conducted Wednesday through Sunday 8:00am - 11:00am and 1:00pm - 4:00pm.
