Water conservation is a responsibility that we all share. Henderson is your partner in this effort, providing options to help everyone to do their part.

Several efforts such as reducing water waste, municipal code changes, incentives, and recognition programs have helped to conserve water and the City’s water consumption decreased in 2023. Estimates for the 2023 overall water consumption is a reduction of approximately 5%, which equates to more than one billion gallons in water savings. A decrease in City, commercial, and residential water use is reflective of the positive impact of grass removal on water conservation.

What you can do: 

• Comply with the regional watering schedule.
• Report water waste to the City.
• Take advantage of rebates to remove decorative grass and install water-smart landscaping.
• Get a discount for taking your car to a Water Smart Car Wash.
• Use high-efficiency water fixtures and leverage financial incentives through SNWA’s Water Efficient Technologies (WET) program.
• Hire a Water Smart Plumber to fix a leak and take advantage of SNWA leak detection vouchers.

One of the major areas of opportunity in the City’s strategic plan is ensuring a high-quality, multimodal transportation network. Connected and equitable mobility promotes low carbon mobility, public transportation, and active lifestyles. The City continues to reduce emissions for vehicles in City operations and across community, promote connected and equitable mobility, and identify opportunities for electric vehicle charging, decrease vehicle emissions, and improve safety for motorists. Active transportation decreases transportation-related emissions and improves quality of life by promoting walking and biking.

 What you can do:

• Ride your bike to brunch, the store, or other errands to get some exercise, fresh air, and reduce your vehicle driving.
• Join RTC’s Club Ride program, report your ride and potentially win a prize for using alternate transportation.

The City encourages smart development including constructing resilient and sustainable buildings and infrastructure across the city. Clean energy includes transitioning homes and businesses to be carbon neutral through efficient and renewable energy such as solar and hydropower. The City is proactively seeking sustainable ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants in buildings and developments.

The City's Building Code has requirements for water conservation, water and energy efficiency, and other sustainable measures. One way the City is encouraging smart development is through the C-PACE program. C-PACE is designed to help qualifying commercial, industrial, and multifamily (with five or more units) property owners access long-term financing for the installation of qualifying energy efficiency, water efficiency, renewable energy, and resiliency projects.
