About the Henderson Animal Protection Services Facility
Located at 300 E. Galleria Dr., Animal Protection Services is a low-kill facility, dedicated to the health and safety of each animal in its care. A full-time veterinarian works on site to provide medical care and assistance. Animal Protection Services takes in dogs, cats, as well as many other types of animals.

Announcing Animal Protection Services Facility Upgrades
Updating the Animal Protection Services Facility is a priority for the City of Henderson.
In July 2025, the City announced a commitment to invest up to $7 million worth of renovations to the existing facility and construction of a new on-site office building to house both APS and Office of Public Response (OPR) personnel.
This additional capital investment meets the initial requests for approximately $3.5 million in facility improvements, strengthens operational efficiency and provides additional funding to relocate Animal Protection Officers out of the current building—freeing up valuable space within the existing facility footprint. This significant additional investment will allow more room for expansion and enhanced services for animals in the City’s care.
These ambitious plans are a result of learnings from the third-party operational analysis of the facility completed in 2024, as well as feedback from APS staff and volunteers. APS and OPR personnel will continue to have input as detailed plans are finalized.
The projects are currently in the design phase. Estimated timelines and scope of work are subject to change.
Five key areas will receive upgrades:
- Replace all existing dog kennels along with adding additional kennels (estimated timing 10 months)
- Install permanent shade structures over visiting area in adoption courtyard (estimated timing 4 weeks)
- Renovate the existing facility (estimated timing 18 months)
- Expansion of the existing medical area
- Replace multi-user restrooms with single-occupant restrooms with showers
- Convert existing medical office, laundry room and offices into new animal isolation rooms
- Medical office

- Dog isolation play yard
- Cat respiratory and ring worm isolation rooms
- Enclose exterior covered patio/entry to allow for additional climatized space
- Replace swamp coolers with air conditioning units
- Repurpose existing sallyport building into storage space and laundry room
- New detached office building for Animal Protection Services and Office of Public Response personnel (estimated timing 19 months)
- Supervisor offices
- Open office space with cubicle stations
- Training room/conference room/hoteling space
- Single-use restroom facilities with showers
- Locker room area
- Kitchen/breakroom

- Storage room
- Add additional public parking spaces and renovate existing employee parking lot (estimated timing within new building construction plan)
Animal Protection Services Facility Completed Upgrades
More than $600,000 in improvements and upgrades have already been made since 2023. We're excited to continue this work with additional funding.
