Language Access Plan
The City of Henderson is committed to providing meaningful access to City programs, services, and activities for all residents and visitors, including individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP).
Language should never be a barrier to accessing City services. In accordance with Nevada Assembly Bill 266 (AB 266) and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the City provides language assistance at no cost to the public.
The City’s Language Access Plan helps ensure that individuals who speak languages other than English can communicate effectively with City staff and access important information and services.
Available Language Assistance
The City of Henderson offers a variety of language assistance services, including:
- Telephone interpretation services available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Access to interpretation in more than 260 languages
- American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services upon request
- Written translation services for vital documents and communications
- In-person interpretation services when scheduled in advance
- Bilingual City employees who can assist members of the public in various languages
Language assistance services are provided free of charge.
Languages Spoken in Our Community
Henderson is home to a diverse and growing population. Based on U.S. Census data, some of the most commonly spoken languages among residents with limited English proficiency include:
- Spanish
- Tagalog (Filipino)
- Chinese (including Mandarin and Cantonese)
- Korean
- Vietnamese
- Arabic
- Other Indo-European and Asian-Pacific languages
The City continually evaluates community needs to ensure language services remain responsive and accessible.
Requesting Language Assistance
If you require language assistance when interacting with the City of Henderson, please notify City staff. Language services are available for City programs, meetings, services, and communications.
Examples of available assistance may include:
- Translation of important documents
- Interpretation during meetings or appointments
- Assistance accessing online or in-person services
- Language support for public meetings and election-related materials
Certain public meetings, including City Council meetings, may offer translation services upon request.
City Language Access Coordinator
The City Clerk serves as the City’s Language Access Coordinator and oversees implementation of the Language Access Plan.
