Mayor (Henderson City Charter Section 2.010/NRS 293.1755)

• Residency Requirements:  Must be a bona fide resident of the territory which is established by the boundaries of the City of Henderson for the 12 months immediately preceding the last day for filing a declaration of candidacy for the office.
• Elector Status:  Must be a qualified elector.
• Voter Registration Requirements:  At least 30 days immediately preceding the date of the close of filing of declarations for candidacy, a candidate must be a registered voter in the City.

Council Member (Henderson City Charter Section 2.010)

• Residency Requirements:  1) Must be a bona fide resident of the territory which is established by the boundaries of the City of Henderson for the 12 months immediately preceding the last day for filing a declaration of candidacy for the office.  2) Must be a resident of the ward which he or she represents for at least 30 days immediately preceding the last day for filing a declaration of candidacy.
• Elector Status:  Must be a qualified elector in the ward which he or she represents.
• Voter Registration Requirements:  Must be registered to vote in the ward which he or she represents.

 Municipal Court Judge (Henderson City Charter Section 4.020 & NRS 5.020)

• Residency Requirements:  1) Must be a citizen of the State.  2) Must be a bona fide resident of the City of Henderson for at least 12 months immediately preceding the last day of the filing a declaration of candidacy.
• Elector Status:  Must be a qualified elector in the city.
• Voter Registration Requirements:  At least 30 days immediately preceding the date of the close of filing of declarations for candidacy, a candidate must be a registered voter in the City.
• Additional Requirements:  1) Must have not ever been removed or retired from any judicial office by the Commission on Judicial Discipline.  2) File a declaration of candidacy.
• Judicial Questionnaire:  Pursuant to SB418 of the 2023 Nevada Legislative Session, this questionnaire is required by law when filing for judicial office for all non-incumbent judicial candidates.  Current incumbents may, but are not required to, complete this questionnaire if they so choose.

A qualified elector is any person who is 18 years of age, is a citizen of the United States, who has resided in this state and in the county at least 30 days preceding the election at which he desires to vote, and who is registered as required by law.

(Henderson City Charter Section 1.080)

The Mayor and Council members shall not hold any other elected office with the State of Nevada or any of its political subdivisions or any other employment with the City, except as provided by law, as a member of a board or commission which is ancillary to the office which he or she holds or as a member of the board of trustees of a county school district, be elected or appointed to any office created by or the compensation for which was increased or fixed by the City Council, until one year after the expiration of the term for which he or she was elected. Any person holding any office prescribed by the above shall automatically forfeit his or her office as Mayor or Council member.

2026 Candidate Filing Dates: 

• Judicial: January 5-16, 2026 (Monday - Friday)
• Non-Judicial: March 2-13, 2026 (Monday - Friday)

• Those seeking to run are not officially declared a candidate until they complete and submit their candidate filing packet in person to the Henderson City Clerk’s Office.

All candidates for the office of Mayor, Council member, or Municipal Judge shall pay a filing fee of $100.00 payable to the City of Henderson at the time of filing.

These filing fees are payable by cash, debit/credit cards, cashier's check, or certified check. NRS 293.193 does not allow personal checks.

NRS 293.740 defines electioneering as campaigning for or against a candidate, ballot question or political party by:

• Posting signs

• Distributing literature

• Using loudspeakers

• Buying, selling, wearing or displaying any badge, button or other insignia, except that a person may wear political insignia while voting only if he/she is reasonably unable to cover it

• Soliciting signatures of any kind

Regulations

The regulations for electioneering and campaigning are in the Nevada Revised Statutes’ sections 293.3572, 293.361 and 293.740. The rules differ for early voting and election day electioneering:

Early Voting

• If the voting site is located on private property (mall, supermarket, etc.), no electioneering is allowed on the owner’s property without the owner’s permission (NRS 293.3572).

• If the voting site is located on public property, no one may electioneer within 100 feet of the voting area (NRS 293.361).

Election Day

• No one may electioneer within 100 feet of the entrance to the building or structure in which a polling place is located (NRS 293.740).

Election Signs

Election signs are subject to regulation and enforcement pursuant to the City’s Development Code (Title 19 of the Henderson Municipal Code). Please contact the Community Development and Services Department, Code Enforcement Division, for more information regarding permissible sign sizes, locations and physical types, and whether a permit may be required.

All campaign financial disclosure statements (FDS) are required to be filed online with the Secretary of State by all state and local elected officials by January 15 of each year they are in office.
