NAMED ONE OF THE
GREAT PLACES IN
Located in our City’s Downtown core, the Water Street District is a
unique setting where Main Street USA meets progressive, dynamic
thinking. A convergence of culture, commerce and authentic small-town
sensibilities, the Water Street District is the product of forward-
thinking redevelopment planning and policies carried out by the City
of Henderson. This year Water Street was recognized by the American
Planning Association (APA) as a 2019 “Great Place in America”- one of
only three Great Streets and one of only 13 awardees nationwide. APA’s
Great Places in America program recognizes the streets, neighborhoods
and public spaces in the United States demonstrating exceptional
character, quality and planning—attributes that enrich communities,
facilitate economic growth, and inspire others around the country.
Today, the exceptional attributes of the Water Street District combined
with innovative pro-business and residential incentive programs are
changing the face – and the soul – of this vibrant district.
Due to a combination of a healthy economy, marketing efforts by the
City of Henderson and Redevelopment Agency, the announcement
of the Vegas Golden Knights community ice rink and the recent
designation of Downtown Henderson as an Opportunity Zone, we are
seeing a significant increase by developers in building and investing
in the Water Street District. The Redevelopment Agency is working
with numerous developers looking to construct large-scale, mixed-use
projects along the Water Street corridor.
These mixed-use projects align with the City’s vision to create a
modern, walkable Downtown where residents are able to live, learn,
work, shop and play. The approved projects are slated to begin
construction in the next twelve months and will add new housing stock,
multiple restaurants, and retail and office space to the area.
As the revitalization of Water Street continues, we embrace the rich
history of our City’s core and celebrate our small-town values while
being Nevada’s second-largest city. Through our current planning
efforts, the Water Street District will remain a sustainable community
gathering space and a valley-wide destination for generations to come.
