TO MESSAGE A 2
HENDERSONHAPPENINGS | Winter 2020 | January-April Dear Neighbors,
We are thrilled about the exciting changes that have taken place in the Water Street District over the
past two years. And there is no better example of our success than the amazing transformation of the
Water Street District, where new restaurants, shops and office buildings are revitalizing this mature
area of the City.
With the introduction of our Downtown Henderson Investment Strategy, the City developed a vision for
the Water Street District that establishes a downtown community gathering space that is welcoming to
everyone. One of the most noteworthy additions to the area is our strategic investment agreement with
the Golden Knights to build a state-of-the-art ice arena in Downtown Henderson.
The Golden Knights Arena will be a game-changer for the City and a catalyst for the revitalization of this
historic area. The new arena will occupy the former site of the Henderson Convention Center and will
closely resemble City National Arena in Summerlin.
The facility will include two NHL-sized rinks with a restaurant overlooking the ice and 5,000 square feet
of meeting space that can be used by the public. In addition, 141 full-time jobs will be created and a total
of $26.5 million will be generated in our community annually. That’s a big win for Henderson!
Additional projects planned for Water Street include a mixed-use project that will feature 100 residential
units and 40,000 square feet of commercial and retail space. Bella Hospitality Group also has plans
for multiple restaurants and a rooftop terrace and bar, and Assured Development will soon complete
renovations of the former Bank of America building to prepare for its anchor tenant, Mojave Brewing.
These companies are bringing jobs, investment and tax revenue that will be reinvested into enhancing public safety, supporting education and assisting with other
Henderson priorities. Moreover, the revitalization of Downtown Henderson is being noted by organizations near and far, including recognition by the American Planning
Association as a 2019 Great Streets designee.
We are proud to see all the success that has come to this important area of the City, and, if you haven’t already, I encourage you to visit soon and take advantage of the
Water Street District’s outstanding collection of retail shops, professional services, family and nightlife entertainment, employment centers, and educational opportunities
that make it a truly wonderful place to call home.
Mayor Debra March
Henderson has focused on attracting and developing businesses across the City, which has created a period of remarkable progress in our community. As a result, the
Water Street District in Downtown Henderson has become one of the most vibrant parts of our City, where multiple mixed-use developments like the South End on Water
office and retail building and the Vegas Golden Knights practice facility are bringing new energy to this area.
And this is only the beginning. In fact, during the past 12 months, our business recruitment and outreach has led to 14 new businesses opening in the Downtown/Water
Street District. This new wave of businesses includes new office spaces, a coffee shop, restaurants, bars, and a local brewery as well as plans for desirable residential
This success is very exciting for our community, but it didn’t happen by chance. The Water Street District is thriving because of the visioning, planning and strategic
investments that set the stage for the future. A critical piece of this comprehensive plan was gathering community support for this vision. We focused our efforts on
engaging all segments of Henderson residents, who weighed in to help define a shared vision for our community.
Water Street also is included in a Downtown Complete Streets project, which is making physical improvements to
provide safer, more inviting pedestrian and bicycle access. These improvements have, in turn, facilitated further
development in Downtown Henderson.
In addition to its positive local effect, Henderson is contributing to the economic vibrancy of the entire region. This
impact is becoming increasingly evident as our success in attracting new businesses creates an economic ripple
that is benefitting the entire Las Vegas Valley.
City Leadership’s sustained commitment to strategic planning has provided us with the opportunity to reach our
goal of becoming a premier community. For Henderson, this means that the notable economic development we
are enjoying today is supporting the great quality of life we have in our community and enhances our reputation
as one of the best places in the country to live, learn, work and play.
