Winter Hiking Series
Join us for four winter hikes throughout Southern
Nevada. The walks vary in length and are a great way
to get in shape while exploring our trails. Sign up for
one, two or all three. Dress for the weather. Youth
(under 18 years) must be accompanied by a parent/
guardian. Registration is required.
Whitney Mesa upper trail (2.5 miles)
This is a moderate hike with elevation gains. Leashed
dogs are welcome. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring
water, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a snack.

Sloan Canyon Petroglyphs (5 miles)
This moderate hike starts at Sloan Canyon Contact
Station and covers approximately 5 miles on the 100
and 200 trails. The hike takes place along a sandy
wash and rocky terrain with switchbacks, but does
not involve climbing. A park ranger talks about human
history in the Las Vegas Valley and provides insight
into the more than 1,700 petroglyphs in Sloan Canyon.
No pets. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring 2 liters or
64 ounces of water, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a
snack.

Black Mountain Trail (7.6 miles)
BLM 404 trail, also known as the Black Mountain Trail,

Explore Anthem East Trailhead
This beginner-friendly walk starts at Anthem Trailhead
covering approximately 3 miles on the Anthem East,
McCullough Hills, and White Bursage trails. A park
ranger talks about key resources protected by Sloan
Canyon National Conservation Area and shares tips for
exploring the area. Leashed dogs are welcome. Wear
closed-toe shoes and bring 2 liters or 64 ounces of
water, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a snack.

EXCURSIONS
Lee Canyon Ski Trip
Hit the slopes this winter at Lee Canyon. With 195
acres of lift-served terrain, there is plenty of action
for skiers of all levels. Registration includes a lesson,
ski rental package and lift ticket. Pack a lunch or
purchase lunch at the café. Depart 8:30 a.m. from
DRC. Ages 12-17 must be accompanied by a parent/
guardian.

Snowshoe Hike
Join us for a winter adventure on the Bristlecone
Loop Trail at Mount Charleston. Snowshoe 3-4 miles
round trip, depending on trail conditions. Snowshoes
and trekking poles are provided. Dress in layers and
bring water and snacks. Youth (under age 18) must be
accompanied by a parent/guardian. Transportation is
provided from DRC to Mount Charleston.

Reindeer Dash 5K Run
Make a dash to Pittman Wash Trail for a jolly good
time. Wear your most cheerful costumes or ugly
holiday sweaters. Souvenir T-shirts are guaranteed
for the first 300 participants. All fitness levels are
welcome. Registration dates are listed in parentheses
below. Packet pickup is at Silver Springs Recreation
Center from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Dec. 14 or at Pecos
Legacy Park from 8:00-9:00 a.m. the day of the event.

Cupid’s 5K Fun Run
Cupid is at Whitney Mesa this February as you run
or walk on Whitney Mesa Trail with your loved ones.
The first 350 participants are guaranteed a T-shirt and
medal. Whitney Mesa Archery Range is open 10:00
a.m.-noon for all registered participants at no cost.

Rover Run 5k Fun Run
This fun run is for you and your four-legged friend.
The first 350 human participants are guaranteed a
T-shirt and finisher dog tag (for your dog’s collar). Stick
around for Bark in the Park, which starts at 10:00 a.m.
All pets must be leashed and handlers must be at least
10 years old. Owners are responsible for cleaning up
after their pets.

Cosmic Climb
No experience is necessary for our first cosmic
climb. It’s a night exploring the rock wall by black light
with games and music. Climbers are given a safety
presentation and taught how to tie in before climbing.
It’s suitable for those weighing 48 to 300 pounds.
Climbers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by
an adult.

River Mountains Loop Trail Cleanup
Join us for spring cleaning at the annual River
Mountains Loop Trail Cleanup. Transportation is
provided from Equestrian Park South to the trail.
Hat, water, sunscreen, sturdy shoes and gloves
are recommended. Youth (ages 5-12) must be
accompanied by a parent/guardian. Teens (ages 13-
17) must have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian.
