Henderson Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting

August 01, 2020

Henderson, Nev. – On August 1st, at approximately 4:40 a.m., the City of Henderson Police Department responded to the 400 block of Box Elder Court in reference to an unknown problem.

The person reporting advised an unknown black male subject fell to the ground, possibly collapsed with a butcher knife in his hand.

Preliminary investigation indicates as officers arrived on scene, they located the male outside the residence with a knife to his throat.  The officers immediately attempted to de-escalate the situation and establish a verbal dialogue with the male however he was not engaging with officers.  The male began to walk towards the officers with the knife, where officers deployed their taser.  This less lethal use of force option was momentarily successful; however, the male reacquired the knife resulting in an officer-involved shooting.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and officers immediately began life saving measures.  The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he is expected to survive.

The subject will be charged with one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer.

No officers were injured during this incident.

As this is an open investigation, no further details will be released at this time.

This is the fourth officer-involved shooting in 2020.

The involved Henderson Police Officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, and their names will be released after 48 hours, per department policy.
