City of Henderson Honored with Southwest Alliance for Excellence’s 2019 Pioneer Award for Excellence

Henderson, Nev. – The Southwest Alliance for Excellence (SWAE), a non-profit corporation that advances improvement and excellence in organizations, communities and individuals in Arizona, Nevada and Utah, has selected the City of Henderson for its 2019 Pioneer Award for Excellence. Henderson is the only Nevada municipality to receive the Pioneer Award, which the City has been recognized with twice, once in 2014 and again in 2019.
“We are thrilled that the City of Henderson’s emphasis on high-performing public service and our organizational culture which focuses on team member engagement and continuous self-improvement have again been recognized by the Southwest Alliance for Excellence,” said Mayor Debra March. “Receiving the prestigious Pioneer Award for Excellence for a second time is quite an achievement, but more importantly, it reflects the City’s continuing journey to be America’s premier community.”
In August 2019, the City submitted a 60-page application that detailed the organization’s performance in seven categories: leadership, strategy, customers, measurement, workforce, operations and results. A team of examiners conducted a four-day site visit in November and interviewed about 100 team members to validate information in the application.
Examiners noted several outstanding practices demonstrated by the City, including clearly defined strategic and business operations planning processes, well-defined and well-deployed approaches for workforce engagement and empowerment, and well-integrated performance monitoring and improvement processes that help the City continuously improve customer satisfaction.
SWAE’s annual Performance Excellence Program is modeled after the acclaimed Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, providing an opportunity for recognition and valuable feedback on where an organization is positioned on the quality continuum.
