As students head back to school, Henderson reminds families and e-device riders to make safety a priority and Ride Smart, Stay Safe.

As students head back to school, we’re taking another step to help keep them safe on their way to and from school and throughout the community.
This week, the City of Henderson launched its fourth Back-to-School e-bike enforcement initiative, led by the Henderson Police Department in partnership with the Clark County School District Police Department. The effort focuses on education, visibility and enforcement in areas where students ride and gather, including routes to and from school.
E-bike safety continues to be an important concern for Henderson families. We’ve heard from residents about reckless riding, excessive speeds, unsafe riding areas and illegal electric devices. We take those concerns seriously.
Earlier this year, we launched our Ride Smart, Stay Safe campaign to help riders and parents understand the rules for safely and legally using e-bikes and other electric devices. Education remains at the heart of our approach, but enforcement is an important part of keeping our community safe.
Making an Impact
Our enforcement efforts are already helping us address unsafe and illegal riding behaviors. So far, Henderson Police officers have:
Conducted 221 stops
Issued 122 citations
Towed 52 electric devices
Issued 25 citations to parents
As part of this latest initiative, officers will continue focusing on unsafe behaviors, including reckless riding, excessive speed, riding in prohibited or unsafe areas, illegal electric devices and riding without a helmet.
A new school year is a fresh start and a great opportunity to build safe riding habits. We encourage students and families to do their part, stay alert and make safety a priority every time they ride. Together, we can help make this a safe and successful school year for everyone.
