Making Waves: Henderson Fire Trains for Monsoon Season

Post Date:07/07/2026 2:15 PM

When most people visit water parks, they're there to cool off and have fun. But for Henderson Fire's Technical Rescue Team, it's all about training for the moments that matter most.

Each year, as monsoon season approaches, our firefighters head to Cowabunga Bay to practice swift water rescue techniques in a safe, controlled environment. The realistic setting gives crews the opportunity to sharpen critical skills they'll use if heavy rains create dangerous flooding here in Henderson.

While monsoon storms don't happen every day, they can arrive quickly and bring intense rainfall in a short amount of time. Flash flooding can turn streets and washes into fast-moving waterways, creating hazardous conditions for drivers, pedestrians and first responders alike.

Monsoon season runs from June through September, and Henderson Fire trains year-round so crews are ready when severe weather rolls in.

Henderson Fire's Technical Rescue Team includes 30 specially trained firefighters who respond to some of the community's most challenging emergencies. Whether it's rescuing someone from swift water, navigating confined spaces, performing high-angle rescues, responding to trench incidents or assisting at structural collapses, these firefighters have the specialized training and equipment needed for complex rescues.

Behind every successful rescue is hours of preparation. Training like this helps ensure Henderson Fire is ready to respond—rain or shine—so our community can stay safe all season long.
