As the Nation Celebrates Its 250th Anniversary, Residents Are Encouraged To Use Only Legal Fireworks, Protect Pets and Help Keep the Community Safe

HENDERSON, Nev. (June 29, 2026) — The City of Henderson is reminding residents to celebrate the Fourth of July safely by following fireworks regulations and taking steps to protect pets during one of the busiest times of the year for animal shelters.

Only “safe and sane” fireworks are allowed in Henderson from June 28 through July 4. Fireworks purchased outside Clark County are likely illegal and should not be used.

Residents are reminded to keep children away from fireworks, never leave fireworks unattended and soak used fireworks in water before placing them in the trash to help protect the community.

Those looking for a safe way to celebrate the holiday can join the City of Henderson’s annual Fourth of July celebration at Heritage Park, which offers a family-friendly way to enjoy the festivities while leaving the fireworks to trained professionals.

Anyone who sees illegal fireworks is encouraged to call 3-1-1 to report them. More information about fireworks safety is available.

The holiday can also be stressful and dangerous for pets, with July 5 marking the busiest day of the year for shelters across the country as many animals become lost after being frightened by fireworks. Microchipping and licensing pets help ensure lost animals can be quickly reunited with their families while helping keep shelters less crowded.

In observance of the holiday, Henderson Animal Protection Services will be closed on Friday, July 3. The shelter will reopen Saturday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for pet reunification and adoptions.

Pet owners are encouraged to make sure pets have updated identification, keep animals indoors during fireworks activity and take precautions to help reduce stress and prevent escapes.
