Henderson Recognized Nationally for Election Security and Poll Worker Wellness

We have earned national recognition from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), receiving two Clearinghouse Awards.

The City’s elections team was recognized in the Security: Innovation and New Tools in Election Security and Technology category for “Operation Ballot Box,” a cross-departmental initiative that strengthened election preparedness through coordinated planning, training and pre-election assessments with local, county and state partners, helping improve security, communication and operational readiness before Election Day.

In addition to the national award, Henderson also received an honorable mention in the Poll Workers: Best Practices in Recruiting, Retaining, and Training Poll Workers category. The City’s “Polls, Peace, and Pups” program launched in 2023 to support poll workers’ physical, mental and emotional well-being during high-stress election periods. In partnership with the City’s Mental Health & Wellness Program, election staff were provided with rest and decompression areas, mindfulness resources and animal-assisted stress relief opportunities.

The EAC’s Clearinghouse Awards honor best practices and innovative approaches in election administration from jurisdictions across the country. Winning programs are evaluated on innovation, sustainability, outreach, cost-effectiveness, replicability, and measurable results. The EAC is an independent, bipartisan federal agency focused exclusively on election administration and serves as a national clearinghouse for election information under the Help America Vote Act.
