Celebrate Juneteenth with the City of Henderson: Festival, Flag Raising and Art Exhibition

HENDERSON, Nev. (May 28, 2026) — The City of Henderson, in partnership with the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation of Nevada, invites the community to commemorate Juneteenth through vibrant celebrations of culture, history and art.

Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony

 Juneteenth celebrations kick off with a flag-raising ceremony on Monday, June 1, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Henderson Council Chambers and City Hall steps. Join us as we honor the hopes, dreams and people representing the flag. 

Juneteenth Festival at Water Street Plaza

Join us on Friday, June 19, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Henderson’s annual Juneteenth Festival at Water Street Plaza. This free event is a dynamic evening filled with music, culture and community spirit. 

The celebration features live performances by internationally acclaimed artists, including:

  • Spoken Word with Ashley “Ms AyeVee” Vargas (Clark County Poet Laureate), an award-winning Afro-Latina Literary Artist from Las Vegas known for wearing many hats, all rooted in passion for poetry, Vanessa Williams, and Ryan Alexander (Petit Monstre), a Las Vegas-based photographer, poet and teaching artist known for blending visual storytelling with spoken word poetry. 
  • Thunderstorm Artis - Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for his heartfelt lyrics, soulful voice, and powerful storytelling. He rose to national prominence as a finalist on The Voice and later captured the hearts of millions as a Top 5 finalist on American Idol. 
  • Naturally 7 - An a cappella group internationally recognized for its signature “Vocal Play” style, transforming voices into actual human instruments, effortlessly producing music of any genre. The acclaimed group has toured worldwide with artists including Michael Bublé and Coldplay, and earned praise from music legend Quincy Jones, who called them “the future of vocal music.”

Admission is free and all seating is general admission. Food and a community vendor market will be onsite.

Art Exhibition: “Juneteenth in the Present”

On display starting Monday, June 1, at Henderson City Hall, “Juneteenth in the Present: An Art Exhibition” explores Juneteenth and the conceptualization and aspirations of freedom in the present day. 

The exhibit runs through July 20 and can be viewed during regular City Hall business hours: Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 240 S. Water Street. 

Meet the artists at a community reception to celebrate the exhibit on Thursday, June 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Henderson City Hall.
