Voters To Decide the Future of Parks and Recreation Funding

HENDERSON, Nev. (May 4, 2026) — In the upcoming 2026 Primary Election, Henderson residents will consider several important ballot items, including a measure that will help shape the future of local parks and recreation funding.

Ballot Question 1 asks Henderson voters whether to continue an existing property tax originally approved in 1997. Set at 12 cents per $100 of assessed property value, the tax currently provides approximately 40% of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department budget and supports programs and services that contribute to Henderson’s quality of life.

Voting Yes, supports:

  • Clean, well-maintained parks, trails and sports fields
  • Pools, community centers and recreation programs
  • Youth and preschool programs, childcare and senior services
  • Safe, active neighborhoods and strong property values

If it is not passed, the tax rate will remain the same, and the funding will be redirected out of Henderson—impacting the future of Parks and Recreation services and amenities.

Voting No, potentially means:

  • Reduction in park/trail maintenance
  • Cutbacks on recreation programs and events
  • Delayed equipment repair/replacement
  • Decreased property values
  • Increased safety risks
  • Decline in economic and community vitality
  • Decline in City services
