Program Reduced Water Use Citywide by More Than One Billion Gallons in Its First Year

HENDERSON, Nev. (April 29, 2026) — The City of Henderson is proud to announce it has earned the American Planning Association’s 2026 Award for Excellence in Sustainability – Environment, Climate and Energy for the innovative water conservation initiative, H2One: Henderson’s Call to Conserve.

Launched in response to historic drought conditions and declining levels at Lake Mead, H2One calls on the community to do their part to save water while positioning Henderson as a regional leader in water conservation and climate response.

In Its First Year, the Program:

  • Reduced Citywide water use by more than one billion gallons
  • Removed or converted 700,000 square feet of water-thirsty decorative grass
  • Reduced water use at City facilities and parks by over 10 percent

H2one Combines Clear Policy, Strong Community Outreach and Financial Incentives, Including:

  • Rebates ($5/sq.ft.) offered through the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) for replacing decorative grass with water-smart landscaping
  • Additional $575 rebate from the City for qualifying Henderson residents

To date, more than 3.2 million square feet of grass have been removed, saving an estimated 182 million gallons of water citywide.

Beyond conservation, H2One also strengthens economic resilience by lowering utility costs, supporting local landscaping businesses and protecting long-term water supplies essential for growth. The initiative enhances quality of life through park improvements, expanded tree planting and cooler, drought-adapted public spaces.

H2One is a key part of the City’s Climate Response strategy, turning conservation into measurable, community-wide impact to keep Henderson thriving now and in the future.
