City of Henderson Named Only Nevada City To Provide Response Support for 988 Crisis Calls

Partnership Enhances In-Person Behavioral Health Crisis Response, With Launch Expected This Year

HENDERSON, Nev. (April 22, 2026) — Following a presentation at the April 21 City Council meeting, the City of Henderson announced its selection as the only municipality in Nevada to serve as support response services for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Through a partnership with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline call center in Southern Nevada, the City will enhance its community-based behavioral health crisis response.

As part of the next phase of the 988 rollout, the City’s Crisis Response Team, part of the Department of Community and Neighborhood Programs, has been designated as a key support for individuals in Henderson who call 988 and require in-person crisis response. This designation makes the team the first and only program in the state serving in this capacity.

Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero said the program reflects the City’s continued commitment to delivering high-performing public service while prioritizing the well-being of residents.

“This program underscores the City’s commitment to caring for our residents through responsive, high-performing public service,” Mayor Romero said. “By strengthening our crisis response efforts and partnering in this statewide initiative, we are ensuring that individuals in need receive timely, compassionate support when it matters most.”

The Crisis Response Team has been piloting a similar response model in partnership with the Henderson Fire Department and Henderson Police Department over the past several months, helping inform the development of the expanded program.

Nevada's Crisis Response System is a statewide effort to make sure that immediate, accessible support is available for all Nevadans when they have mental health or substance use emergencies. Staff at DPBH administer the 988 Lifeline and help community partners create and sustain programs that provide behavioral healthcare immediately, including crisis stabilization centers and mobile crisis teams.

The program is expected to launch later this year, with additional planning and coordination efforts ongoing.
