Court Rules in APS’ Favor, Securing Care for Rescued Dogs and Cats

HENDERSON, Nev. (March 11, 2026) — The City of Henderson Animal Protection Services (APS) successfully defended the seizure of multiple animals during its first-ever return of animals hearing since joining the Department of Community Development and Services.

During the hearing, the suspect voluntarily relinquished two dogs and two cats to the City. The judge also ruled that the suspect was not fit or able to care for the remaining three American Eskimo dogs, allowing APS to maintain custody.

In January, APS, working with the Office of Public Response and the Henderson Police Department, responded to a residence where officers found multiple animals living in poor conditions inside a garage. APS seized seven animals, all of which received medical care and are now healthy.

The three American Eskimo dogs will transfer to a local rescue, where they will await adoption. The other animals, two dogs and two cats, have already been adopted.

A resident tip led officers to the home, highlighting the importance of the City’s “See, say, do something” initiative in protecting both animals and the community.
