HENDERSON, Nev. (Aug. 13, 2024) – The City of Henderson announces it has achieved Gold status in the Roadmap to Active, Connected Communities for its Move with the Mayor challenge, featuring Mayor Michelle Romero.

In May, Henderson participated in a nationwide activity challenge that encouraged mayors to lead by example and encourage their residents to participate in mental health and physical activities. Mayor Romero was one of 47 pioneering mayors that participated in the challenge.

Move with the Mayor events in Henderson included:

• Battle Born Kids Move with the Mayor Fitness Stations
• Earth Day Recycle 5K Run & Trail Cleanup
• Wellness Wednesday Fairs at Downtown Senior Center
• Spring Fling City of Henderson Employee and Family Event
• Glow Bike Ride

“In Henderson, we treat each other like family. Our residents are the heart of our community, so I care about their hearts, too,” said Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero. “I’ve been proud to join city leaders across the nation in the Move with the Mayor initiative to promote healthier, more connected lives. We are honored to receive this Gold recognition and will continue our efforts to enhance the well-being of those who live, learn, work and play in Henderson.”

Developed by the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (National Forum), cities earned points based on their achievements in four main areas:

• Building a culture of connection
• Strengthening social infrastructure in local communities
• Enacting pro-connection public policies
• Partnerships

Move with the Mayor is a nationwide initiative encouraging mayors to lead by example and promote physical activity in their communities. In response to the loneliness epidemic, MWTM has expanded its program to include mental health awareness and support.
