About Henderson Shines Community CleanupHenderson Shines is an annual no-cost, community cleanup and recycling effort that gives our residents the opportunity to dispose of household hazardous materials like paint, oil and batteries, and recycle and/or donate other household goods responsibly. Last year residents helped us collect over 60 cubic-yards of paint, 30 cubic-yards of oil and 1,000 pounds of e-waste; all of which were properly disposed. The event also helped recycle 2,100 pounds of documents for shredding and over 3,100 pounds of donated household goods. This annual cleanup is an ecofriendly way to clear out those closets and garages of unwanted items. Get ready to load up your car and drive through to drop off! |
Know Before You Go
- Please note the event will end promptly at 1pm or as long as capacity permits. Plan to arrive early to ensure you are able to participate.
- Household Goods: Items such as housewares, dishes, sporting goods, clothing, toys will be accepted by Salvation Army.
- Pet Donations: Unopened pet food and toys will be collected by Henderson Animal Protection Services.
- Books: Gently used and new books will be collected by Spread the Word Nevada. No encyclopedias we be accepted.
- E-Waste: Items such as computers, laptops, VHS players and cell phones will be accepted by Nevada State Recycle. We are not able to accept televisions.
- Tires: We are unable to accept tires.
- Paper Shredding: There will be no onsite shredding, drop off only. Limit four (4) banker boxes (20"X10"X12") worth of paper will be accepted by Paper Pros Opportunity Village.
- Paint, oil and batteries will be accepted within the Republic Services Hazardous Household Waste guidelines.
- Pesticides will be accepted by the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA). Pesticide waste must be contained. Leaking/broken bottles must have some form of secondary containment (a tote or bin, thick trash bags, etc.) to avoid spills at the collection site. The NDA can also accept pesticide containers for recycling, but they must be triple rinsed with the lids and booklet labels removed.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a FREE night of film and music at the Water Street Plaza Amphitheater on Friday, September 18 at 7pm. Enjoy film screenings and a Q&A hosted by the Consulado Mexicano before experiencing a live concert at 8pm by Los Vega Son Jarocho, an internationally acclaimed family ensemble celebrating the traditional music and culture of Veracruz.
About Los Vega
Los Vega is a traditional son jarocho group that has been dedicated to the performance, dissemination and promotion of this musical genre for 20 years. Their music is characterized by the balance they achieve between their cultural roots, family heritage and musical quality and stage experience. They have participated in numerous cultural and artistic festivals in the country and abroad, in countries such as China, the United States, Canada and Colombia.They have participated in various film recordings, including the song "La Bruja" for the film "Frida," which was included on the soundtrack and nominated for an Oscar in 2001. In 2018, they performed a show bringing together more than 20 renowned son jarocho artists to commemorate their 20th anniversary. They were nominated for an Oscar in 2019 for the Lunas del Auditorio. That same year, they were invited to participate in the Tibetan Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall in New York, conducted by renowned composer Philip Glass. Their most recent participation in Circulart Colombia included a live showcase.
Throughout their career, they have released five albums.

The film combines elements of family drama, coming-of-age storytelling, and fantasy, while exploring family relationships, identity, loss, and the process of understanding
someone beyond our own perception of them.
Hasta Que el Alma Baile/Till Your Soul Dances

Alma is a middle-aged woman who longs to attend dance classes, but her daily responsibilities revolve around caring for her ill mother, Gladys. With little support from her brother Rubén, Alma continually has to put her own wishes and personal aspirations aside.
The film presents an intimate story centered on family, caregiving, the relationship between mothers and daughters, personal fulfillment, and the importance of creating space for one's own aspirations despite the responsibilities of everyday life.
Karim Carvallo - Los Hombres de Migajón- Don Gilberto is an older man who lives and works alongside his son Daniel, who has a physical disability. The short film follows an ordinary day in their lives, from the moment they wake up until they return home from work, sensitively portraying the bond, care, and mutual support they share Through their story, the film reflects the importance of family within Mexican culture, where unity, solidarity, and support become a source of strength in the face of adversity. The relationship between Don Gilberto and Daniel demonstrates how, even amid the challenges of everyday life, family remains a source of support, dignity, and resilience, highlighting the deep bonds that characterize many Mexican families. – 13 minutes.
Leon Fernandez – The aeronauts- In the middle of a desert, a tribe survives on the land's scarce resources. Soo'goh, the weakest member of the clan, must overcome countless obstacles to reach the lush paradise they all dream of. – 11 minutes – 2017 Winner of Monterrey International Film Festival for Best Mexican Short Film Animation and Best Short Animated Film in Ariel Awards.
Diego Solano - The Heights Bloom - Experimental - animated short film about a childhood memory, the result of a search and investigation into a journey that consisted of exploring memory through drawings. 3:39 minutes – Official selection of Latino and Native American Film Festival.
