Professional Biography:
Andy Hafen was elected at large to the Henderson City Council in June 1987 and re-elected for his sixth term in 2007, representing Ward II. As a council member, Councilman Hafen serves with the mayor and fellow council members as the legislative branch of the city. He serves the entire Henderson community, which was named in 2006 by MONEY magazine as one of the top 20 places in the United States to live. As the second largest city in Nevada, Henderson has grown by 304% since 1990, with population projected to exceed 517,000 by 2030.

Andy was born in Boulder City, Nevada and, except for one year, has lived in the city of Henderson all of his life. He graduated from Basic High School in 1972 and received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1976. For four years, Andy worked as a clerk for the FBI and then for two years as an accountant for Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. He recently retired from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department where he was assigned to the Special Investigations Division for 23 years.

Andy is active in the Nevada League of Cities and has served in positions including Secretary/Treasurer and Second Vice President. In 2006 Andy was elected President of the Nevada League of Cities and was awarded the prestigious Public Official of the Year Award by the League for his years of public service. Additionally, he is a member of the National League of Cities where he serves on the FAIR Steering Committee.

Andy currently serves on the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, the Clark County Regional Flood Control District Board of Directors, and the Clark County Debt Management Commission. He is a member of the city of Henderson Redevelopment Agency and serves as the Council liaison to the Henderson Planning Commission. Additionally, he serves on the Henderson Development Association Board and as an alternate member of the Clean Water Coalition.
