John F. Marz was elected in April 2013 to the Henderson City Council representing Ward III after serving by appointment since January 2012. Councilman Marz serves with the mayor and fellow council members as the legislative branch of the Henderson community, responsible for setting policies and making decisions concerning many different aspects of local government. The City Council also approves the city’s budget.
Councilman Marz will serve as Mayor Pro Tempore through June 2017, performing the duties of mayor during the absence or disability of Mayor Hafen.
Councilman Marz represents the city on the Henderson Hospital Community Advisory Committee and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Board of Directors. In 2014, he was appointed to serve on the National League of Cities First Tier Suburbs Council, which plays a key role in strengthening suburban communities across the nation, helping set organizational policies on federal issues while exploring city challenges.
A Henderson resident for over 30 years, Councilman Marz is the owner of a marketing consultancy firm. He has more than 40 years' experience in marketing, advertising and public relations at the senior executive and corporate levels with the Mandalay Resort Group in Las Vegas and DRGM Advertising in Reno and Las Vegas.
Before his City Council appointment, Marz served on the Henderson Planning Commission from 2009 to 2012. He previously was president of the Foxridge Home Owners Association for three years and served on the Estes McDoniel Elementary School Parent Teacher Association for two years.
In addition to his volunteer service within the Henderson community, Marz served four years on the Washoe County Planning Commission and four years on the Nevada State Commission on Tourism.
Councilman Marz graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in marketing.
