The City of Henderson will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday November 5, at 10am at the Henderson Amphitheater, adjacent to the Veterans Memorial Wall at City Hall in the Henderson Events Plaza. Mayor Andy Hafen and the Henderson City Council, along with the Basic High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC, local Veterans groups and others will honor all who have served The United States of America. This ceremony will pay tribute to Henderson patriots that fought for the basic freedoms for which our country stands.
The Henderson Memorial Wall was dedicated in November 1994, and local veterans are honored annually at Henderson’s Veterans Day Ceremony. Constructed as a tribute to local war veterans, names will be added to the panel of the wall honoring several hundred Vietnam veterans, both living and deceased, as well as the panel reserved for all deceased war veterans who resided in Henderson prior to 1980. In 2006 a section of the wall was added to recognize Henderson residents who are “Killed in Action” or die from enemy action including terrorism and receive a Purple Heart.
This year’s keynote address will be presented by Brigadier General David Buck. General Buck received his commission in 1986 as a distinguished graduate of Officer Training School. His career has spanned a wide variety of operational, test and evaluation and staff assignments. His operational experience includes missile operations, space launch, satellite command and control, space force enhancement and space control. General Buck has served on The Joint Staff as principal military adviser to The Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff for Coalition Management and the Deputy Director for Plans and Programs, Headquarters Air Force Space Command where he formulated the command's Program Objective Memorandum. Prior to his current assignment, he served a one-year deployment as the Director of Space Forces for U.S. Air Forces Central, Southwest Asia.
The Basic High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC will conduct the presentation of colors and read the names to be added to the memorial wall this year. The Henderson Symphony Orchestra will provide a special musical tribute to veterans and the armed forces. Moms Love Quilts, a group whose mission is to honor the men and women who serve in the U.S. military will present veterans with quilts.
