Because water is a precious resource in our desert climate, certain regulations are in place to help everyone conserve water.
Desert living prompts the need for water use restrictions to conserve water. Some of the water use restrictions that may affect you as a new resident are listed below.
Water Waste is prohibited and may be subject to fines. Water waste includes, but is not limited to the following:
Assigned Watering Groups for all outdoor irrigation specify days when you may use spray irrigation. To find your watering group, check your water bill, check our conservation Web page or call our Customer Care Center at (702) 267-5900.
Watering Restrictions, from May 1st through September 30th, prohibit spray irrigation between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. By watering during the cooler early morning or nighttime hours, less water is lost to evaporation and the lawns will benefit, too.
Turf Restrictions prohibit the installation of turf in residential front yards in most cases and limits turf in rear and side yards to 50%. You cannot replace water efficient landscaping with turf in your front yard.
Surface, building and equipment washing is prohibited unless the water stays on site or drains to the sanitary sewer. Personal vehicle washing at a residence is limited to one day per week with the use of a positive shut-off nozzle. Pool and hot tub draining into the street is prohibited and considered water waste. Swimming pool and hot tub water should be discharged into your clean out port, which connects to the city's sanitary sewer system.
An administrative fine system was established to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Conservation Ordinance. For assistance in complying with water-related regulations, please call our Customer Care Center at (702) 267-5900.
