In support of the our purpose statement "to advance quality of life by providing, revitalizing and maintaining premier infrastructure, parks, facilities and diverse recreation experiences to meet existing and future needs of our community," the work of the Public Works Department touches the lives of residents and visitors daily by providing for the construction and maintenance of city municipal facilities, management of public rights-of-way, the operations and maintenance of city streets, storm drains, and traffic signals. Public Works also provides routine maintenance, fueling, and repairs to all city vehicles. The department also develops and designs capital infrastructure for streets and storm drainage and provides engineering and technical services to both public and private capital projects.
In September 2017, the department attained full accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA). We are the 128th
accredited agency in the nation and the only agency in Nevada to hold active accreditation. APWA serves nearly 30,000 professionals in all aspects of public works, including personnel from local, county, state and federal agencies as well as private sector personnel.
