Brian Dunaway was raised in a military family and moved to Las Vegas during high school. After graduation, he spent four years proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army.
Law Enforcement History
Capt. Dunaway began his career with the Henderson Police Department in February 1994 as a patrol officer, later becoming a field training officer and a crisis negotiator. After patrol, he was assigned to the detective bureau and then the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force - Criminal Apprehension Team. He was promoted to sergeant in 2003 and served as a patrol and field training sergeant, and then as an investigations, narcotics and training bureau sergeant. He was then promoted to lieutenant in 2011 assigned to patrol and then the Special Investigations Bureau, supervising the Repeat Offenders, Intelligence, Narcotics, and Problems Solving units. He was promoted to captain in 2013 and is currently assigned to the East Area Patrol Command.
Capt. Dunaway attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas earning a Bachelorís degree in Criminal Justice. He holds a Management Certificate from the Nevada Police Officer Standards and Training (POST). He earned a Certificate in Public Safety Leadership from the International Public Safety Leadership & Ethics Institute and Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society Leadership Development Program.
