Captain Averett was born in Compton, CA, and moved to Henderson in 1970. He graduated from Basic High School in 1973. He was hired by the Henderson Police Department as reserve police officers in 1976 and hired as a full-time officer in 1977.
Law Enforcement History
During his time as a police officer, his assignments included Patrol
and the Investigations Bureau. He was promoted to sergeant in 1987. He
worked in Patrol, Narcotics Unit and the Investigations Bureau as a
sergeant. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1995 and his assignments
included SWAT and Patrol. He helped establish the Gang Unit and was the
Emergency Operations Center commander for several years. He was promoted
to captain in 2006 and currently assigned to Detention Services
Division, which oversees the Henderson Detention Center and the Animal
Care and Control functions.
