Henderson Police

Impersonating a Police Officer

If you are driving and get pulled over, and believe the vehicle pulling you over for a traffic stop may not be a police officer, please do the following:

  • Call 9-1-1. Tell the 9-1-1 dispatcher you are concerned that the person pulling you over may not be a real police officer. Tell the dispatcher your location and the direction you are driving
  • Turn on your vehicle's hazard to alert the officer that you know he or she is behind you
  • Drive to a well lit area
  • Ask the 9-1-1 dispatcher to send a marked police unit to your location
  • If the 9-1-1 dispatcher cannot determine you have been pulled over by a legitimate officer, stay on the phone

If you have been pulled over and suspect the person may not be a police officer:

  • Make sure the officer has a Henderson Police Department badge
  • The badge is shown in the upper right hand corner of this page
  • Ask the officer to call for a supervisor to come to the location
  • If the person will not identify himself or call for a supervisor, call 9-1-1

A legitimate police officer will immediately identify himself or herself. Officers in unmarked police cars and not in a standard uniform will have the police department badge prominently displaced.
