Overview
The Whitney Mesa is located between Russell Road and Sunset Road. The area is bordered at the southern end by Sunset Road and by Clark County School District land to the north. This project is located south of and is connected to Whitney Mesa Nature Preserve (phase one of the project).
Whitney Mesa Trail and Trailhead will provide greater access to the area. The park site will include trails and trailheads that can connect the Whitney Mesa Nature Preserve with other parks, schools and recreation centers. The project will also restore a large portion of the lower Whitney Mesa to a more natural state. The goal is to preserve the beauty of the bluffs and canyons as well as the significant view and sensitive ridgeline in the southeastern Las Vegas Valley. It will include the construction of over 2 miles of trails, accessible nature trails, and rustic trails into the more natural areas within the site. The project includes a park site on 20 acres with neighborhood park amenities, restroom facilities, parking areas, kiosks, and signage. The trailhead is planned to be an educational site with picnic areas, trails, and a restroom facility.
History
