Teens n’ Friends Tree Planting Set for Jan. 30
Planting Unites Henderson Teens Through Community Service

HENDERSON, Nev. – The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department and the Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission on Educational Excellence and Youth Opportunity (Blue Ribbon Commission) are hosting a Teens n’ Friends Tree Planting event from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30 at Amador Vista Park, 1562 Amador Ln. (at Horizon Ridge Parkway) The event is open to all ages.

The event features a demonstration, refreshments, and the planting of 25 trees at the park. It also provides a hands-on opportunity for residents to take an active role in beautifying the community and learning about the importance of trees and conservation.

“Teens in our community are very conscious of the environment and they are interested in ways to make a difference,” said Kirk Niemand, Park Operations manager, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “This event brings together teens from seven high schools throughout Henderson to plant some beautiful trees at Amador Vista Park, which just opened to the public. This kind of involvement gives them a sense of accomplishment and ownership of the park, and it also sets an example for other young people in the community.”

The Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission on Educational Excellence and Youth Opportunity is comprised of teen and adult volunteers in the community. Commissioners review issues concerning education and opportunities for the development of youth in the community, make recommendations to enhance the quality of life for youth in Henderson, and organize and participate in community service projects.
