Registration Open for Summer Jr. Lifeguard Program
HENDERSON, Nev. – Teens interested in learning about lifeguarding may enroll in
the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department’s summer Jr. Lifeguard
program. The program is offered July 14-Aug. 14 at Whitney Ranch Indoor Pool,
1575 Galleria Dr. Participation is $25 per teen (ages 12-15). Register at any
City of Henderson recreation center or online at cityofhenderson.com (activity
336604-01).
The Jr. Lifeguard program introduces teens to lifeguarding and working in an
aquatic facility. Teens will learn the importance of pool safety and how to
respond in an emergency situation. They receive one week of training and skill
development and are then assigned to work at a City of Henderson pool, shadow
guarding and assisting with swim lessons.
“The Jr. Lifeguard program provides a positive, educational environment to teach
teens what it takes to be a lifeguard and how to help others in an emergency,”
said Angela Hester, Aquatics supervisor for the City of Henderson Parks and
Recreation Department. “An integral part of the program is instilling a sense of
teamwork, promoting physical fitness, developing self-confidence. Teens
successfully completing the program could be well on their way to becoming part
of an aquatics team, perhaps even here in Henderson.”
