HENDERSON, Nev. – National Trails Day Celebration 2009, sponsored by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Promenade at the Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Pkwy. Admission is free for all ages.
The annual celebration includes informational booths and presenters, activities for all ages, trail tours, free bike maintenance checks and a GPS workshop courtesy of REI, and the City of Henderson Trails Photo Contest display and awards presentation. Participants can meet fellow trail users and learn about the many local and regional trails throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
Green Valley Cyclists is hosting two guided bike rides during the event. The River Mountains Loop Trail ride starts at 8:00 a.m. and is a 30-mile on-street ride for more experienced riders. The second ride is a 5-mile family bike ride through the Green Valley area, which takes place from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Participants can sign up for either ride at the event but must provide their own bicycles, helmets and water. Participation is free.
This year’s event also features an outdoor gear swap meet, which gives outdoor enthusiasts the chance to sell or swap outdoor gear that they no longer want or use. The swap meet starts at 9:00 a.m. Those wishing to sell items may reserve a 10’x10’ booth at least one week in advance. Register for a booth at cityofhenderson.com (activity 154071-95) for $20 (ages 18+). The sale of firearms, food and non-outdoor gear is prohibited.
