Free Workshop Explores the Basics of Tea

HENDERSON, Nev. – Tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world (second only to water). Discovered almost 5,000 years ago, it is a beverage steeped not just in water, but also in legends, health, trade, ceremonies, and culture. Learn all about this popular beverage in a free workshop to be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5 and again from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 at Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Dr. Participants (ages 18+) need only attend one session. The workshop is sponsored by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.

Participants will discuss the many different tea categories, how teas are made, and where they come from. According to the Tea Association of the USA, an organization comprised of members representing tea importers, wholesalers and companies, tea may contribute to overall good health because it is virtually calorie free and contains no sodium, fat, carbonation or sugar.

“Tea is unique in that it can be enjoyed hot or iced, and there are so many different varieties and tastes,” said Lenore Budyach, Recreation Services supervisor, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “It’s not surprising that more than 127 million Americans drink tea each day.”

Register online at cityofhenderson.com using activity 194026-38 for the Nov. 5 workshop and 194026-39 for the Nov. 20 session. Registration may also be made at any City of Henderson recreation center. For additional information, call 267-5850.
