Dedication of Ben Stepman Plaza at Heritage Park Set For Feb. 6
HENDERSON, Nev.— The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a dedication ceremony for Ben Stepman Plaza at Heritage Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb 6. The plaza is located at Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 S. Racetrack Rd., between Burkholder Boulevard and Newport Drive (just east of Boulder Highway).
The plaza is being named in honor of the late Stepman, a businessman and community leader who was widely recognized because of his appearances in television commercials promoting his car dealership. In the iconic commercials, Stepman spread his arms as he proudly noted in his catch phrase that the dealership was located “in Henderson, of course.”
“Ben Stepman was very active in the community, serving on the board of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, on the St. Rose Dominican Hospital Foundation, and on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations. He loved living in Henderson and worked very hard to help promote the city as a wonderful place to live, raise a family, and start a business,” said Mary Ellen Donner, director, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “It seems fitting for us to honor a man who was a true champion for Henderson at a new building that will serve so many Henderson residents for generations to come.”
The public is invited to attend the dedication. A private reception for the Stepman family and invited guests will be held immediately following at the Stepman home.
