City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department Launches Healthy Henderson Rewards Program
HENDERSON, Nev. – The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is offering residents an opportunity to get healthy and stay fit in 2010 with the help of the newly expanded Healthy Henderson rewards program. Healthy Henderson is a fitness, health and wellness program that helps participants achieve their health and fitness goals through exercise, educational and recreational classes, health screenings, and wellness activities.
“Nearly 45 percent of all American adults make at least one New Year’s resolution each year, with the most common resolutions being to lose weight, start exercising, or stop smoking,” said Sally Ihmels, Recreation superintendent, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “Making and sticking to just one of these resolutions can create dramatic changes in a person’s health, well-being and overall quality of life. That’s where Healthy Henderson comes in. It provides opportunities and rewards for those who are committed to getting and staying fit. What makes the program unique is that everyone works at his or her own pace to reach their personal goals. There’s no pressure.”
Participation is open to anyone 16 years of age and up. Each person selects the Healthy Henderson membership (no contracts required) that best meets their needs and fitness goals. Rock wall, fitness room, aquatics, and fitness room/aquatics packages are all available with one-month, three-month, and 1-year options. Packages range from $10 for a 1-month rock wall membership to $285 for a 1-year combined fitness room/aquatics membership. Patrons signing up for a 3-month membership by Jan. 31 will receive one additional month for free.
Each participant receives a Healthy Henderson rewards card, which is stamped each time the card holder attends a Healthy Henderson class or workshop, works out in the fitness rooms, swims, participates in a City of Henderson sports league, and takes part in a City-sponsored trail event. Once the card is completely stamped (20 stamps), it can be redeemed for rewards or saved up for larger rewards. Rewards include pedometers, T-shirts, heart watches, weight scales, free memberships for family and friends, adventure gift packs and more.
Participants may sign up for a Healthy Henderson membership at any City of Henderson recreation center and Heritage Park Senior Facility. For additional information, visit cityofhenderson.com or call 267-4060.
