Workshop Promotes Health and Fitness Through Triathlon Training

HENDERSON, Nev. – The multisport format of running, biking and swimming has made triathlon an increasingly popular sport among athletes of all levels. To promote the sport’s health benefits, the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Tri Basics, a workshop for athletes at all levels, including novices. The workshop takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Whitney Ranch Indoor Pool, 1575 C Galleria Dr.

Participation is $30 per person, ages 16 and up. Register online at cityofhenderson.com (activity code 436623-00) or in person at any City of Henderson indoor pool or recreation center.

Athletes will receive information about the basics of competing, including swim stroke development, bike mechanics and running performance. They will also learn about racing distances and receive training tips and equipment recommendations.

“Ever since the triathlon made its first appearance in the Olympic Games in 2000, interest in the sport has increased dramatically,” said Trevor Snow, Aquatics supervisor, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “Serious and casual athletes alike can benefit from this workshop because triathlon training places a strong emphasis on cardiovascular health and fitness, which is essential to a healthy lifestyle.”
