Teens-N-Training Summer Program Seeking Applicants
Parks and Recreation Program Provides Job and Life Skills

HENDERSON, Nev. –It’s not easy for teens to acquire job skills these days. But the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is offering responsible teens an opportunity to do just that through an enriching summer program that provides both career and life skills.

The purpose of the department’s Teens-N-Training (TNT) junior leader program is to train teens to become future recreation leaders and to provide assistance with the Parks and Recreation Department’s summer programs. TNT encourages self-confidence and positive communication skills. Responsible teens selected to participate are assigned based on skills, interests, availability, and location preference.

Applications are available online at cityofhenderson.com (type TNT in the search box) and at all City of Henderson recreation centers. Participation is open to teens ages 14 and 15 for $110. Space is limited and applications are accepted April 4-25.

“This program is a win-win because it provides volunteer support for our summer youth programs while also providing teens an opportunity to gain job and life skills,” said Xanie Gann, Recreation Services supervisor. “We interview teens prior to selection, which gives them a feel for what a job interview might be like. It also gives us the chance to get to know them and pinpoint who has the best attitude and enthusiasm.”

Teens chosen to take part will first attend a training workshop that explores communication skills, leadership, conflict resolution, and program policies. Parents are also invited to participate in a workshop that provides an overview of the program and outlines expectations for participants’ behavior and responsibilities.
