City of Henderson's Summer Camps
Offer Parents More Options
HENDERSON, Nev.— With summer break just around the corner, the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department has increased its summer camp offerings to help busy families and working parents. Parents can choose from a variety of convenient locations and programs for youth and teens.
The Summer Kids Zone youth enrichment program is available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 13-Aug. 26, at seven locations, including four of the City’s recreation centers and three school satellite sites (if space is needed). Participation is $99 per child per week (ages 5-12), with sibling discounts available. Kids Zone provides a safe environment and a variety of supervised activities for kids while their parents work. Age-appropriate games, arts and crafts, sports, and positive peer interaction form the basis of the program. Field trips may also be included.
Summer Teen Kamp is available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 13-Aug. 12, at Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Dr. Participation is $110 per teen per week (ages 13-15), and sibling discounts are available. Teen Kamp offers mentoring and leadership activities tailored to meet teens’ interests. Each week features a specific theme, such as outdoor adventure, sports, and graphic arts, and may include field trips.
“Since school track breaks were eliminated, this is the first time that all kids will be out of school for the entire summer,” said Xanie Gann, Recreation Services supervisor, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “As a result, demand has increased for summer camps, and that’s why we’ve opted to expand our summer programs to meet the needs of working families.”
Registration is accepted at any City of Henderson recreation center or online at cityofhenderson.com (type summer camps in the search box). Space may be limited at some locations, so early enrollment is recommended. Parents can reserve their child’s place in any week (or weeks) in the program with a $20 deposit per family per week.
