Arbor Day Foundation Names Henderson A Tree City USA For the 20th Year

HENDERSON, Nev. – The City of Henderson has been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA community for the 20th year for its commitment to urban forestry. The City also received the Foundation’s Tree City USA Growth Award for demonstrating progress in its community forestry program. The Growth Award honors environmental improvement and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. In order to become a Tree City USA community, the City of Henderson had to meet several standards, including having a comprehensive community forestry program and an annual Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

“Everyone will agree that trees are good for the environment and are aesthetically pleasing in our parks and neighborhoods,” said Dominick Casey, assistant director, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “But most people may not be aware that the urban forest is also the City’s only physical asset that does not depreciate over time; it only appreciates. Our urban forestry program is based on sustainable practices that help us to protect and maintain these valuable assets now and for generations to come. Our trees are an essential part of Henderson’s vibrant community.”
