National Trails Day Celebration Oct. 9 at Henderson’s Promenade at the Pavilion

HENDERSON, Nev. – National Trails Day Celebration 2010, sponsored by the City of Henderson, will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Promenade at the Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Pkwy. Admission is free for all ages.

During the annual celebration, participants can learn about local and regional trails in the Las Vegas Valley through exhibits, booths, giveaways, and family-friendly activities such as Henderson trail tours and bike maintenance checks. Outdoor learning topics include GPS 101, Desert Tortoise and Sensitive Species, Wildlife Diversity, Historic Trail—Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Respecting the Trail, and Nature Neighbors. Concessions will also be available.

This year’s highlights will include recognition of the River Mountains Loop Trail National Recreation Trail designation, Nevada Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights presentation, Neon to Nature walk, and City of Henderson Trails Photo Contest winners.

Trail enthusiasts in attendance may also enter a drawing to win a grand prize family camping package, compliments of REI.

Event sponsors include the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department, Outside Las Vegas Foundation, River Mountains Loop Trail Partnership, REI, Republic Services, Evergreen Recycling, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Nevada Division of State Parks, Nevada Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights, Southern Nevada Agency Partnership, Southern Nevada Health District, Friends of the Desert Wetlands Park, Green Valley Cyclists, Outside Las Vegas, Kiwanis International, Vegas Valley 4-Wheelers, and U. S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation.
