Free Workshop Explores Genealogy Research

HENDERSON, Nev.— From famous ancestors to second cousins twice removed, most people know something about their family history. Now the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is offering individuals an opportunity to explore their roots in a free workshop called Genealogy Research. It takes place from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at Heritage Park Senior Facility, a recreation center for adults 50+. Although participation is free, $4 for materials is due to the instructor at class. Registration (ages 50+ only) is required and can be made online at cityofhenderson.com (activity 191038-78) or in person at any City of Henderson recreation center.

The workshop is structured for those who have little or no experience with genealogy research. Participants will learn about tracing one’s lineage through free and easy-to-use tools and resources, including U. S. Census records and immigration documents.

“Learning about your family history and charting a family tree can be a remarkably rewarding experience because it bridges the gap between the past and the present,” said Sue Bobby, Recreation Services supervisor, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “It’s the study of families, but also the study of who we are and where we came from. Genealogy research is something that is meant to be passed down to the next generation.”

For additional information, call 267-2950 or visit cityofhenderson.com.
