City of Henderson’s 2010 Holiday Decorating
Contest Accepting Entries
HENDERSON, Nev.— The City of Henderson’s 2010 Holiday Decorating Contest is accepting entries through Wednesday, Nov. 10, and is limited to the first 50 entries received. Entry forms are available online at cityofhenderson.com (select Parks and Recreation, What’s Happening, then Special Events) or by calling 267-4014. The annual program is sponsored by the Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission (HCBC).
The contest is open to residential single family homes within Henderson city limits and there are two categories to choose from. The Most Innovative category is for homes decorated using new technologies, methods or styles that are original or have not been used in previous years. The Griswald category is for homes decorated in an over-the-top style that is reminiscent of the movie “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
“This popular annual program is an excellent way for residents to deck the halls and show their community pride,” said Doug Guild, Parks superintendent, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. “Setting up lights and displays can be a fun family project, and having so many beautifully decorated homes in our community truly lights up the season.” Members of the HCBC will judge entries on the night of Monday, Dec. 6. Awards will be presented at the City’s annual WinterFest event at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 Water St.
People wishing to view the light displays are invited to register for the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department’s Holiday Lights Tour. The bus tour takes participants on a leisurely drive through the City to view Holiday Decorating Contest entries. It takes place 6:30-9:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, and departs from Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Dr. Registration is $5 per person (all ages) and can be made online at cityofhenderson.com or in person at any City of Henderson recreation center. Space is limited.
For those unable to take the tour, the Parks and Recreation Department will post a map featuring contest entries (after Dec. 14) so families can drive the route themselves at their leisure.
